Lost & Found: The Story of Love

Together with Seamless Dance, join Lucia Aerial Performing Arts Performance Company in exploring the common thread that binds all of us: love. Young and old, rich and poor, man and woman, experience many forms of love in a lifetime, from its purest forms to the most base and lustful. But it is this dichotomy, no matter how painful, that makes the beauty of love so glorious.

Featuring a cast of more than a dozen performers lyrically expressing the story of love on the trapeze, silks, lyra, straps, rope, and contortion, Lost and Found: The Story of Love is an exquisitely moving artistic journey exploring this universal desire.

Building a Solid Foundation for Straps

Building a Solid Foundation for Straps

This workshop is designed to give you training tools to build the strength and body awareness required for developing technical straps work (even if you have just a little or no experience). Basics for safe spotting (for those who want to train together) and shoulder injury prevention will also be introduced as we progress through the different drills and exercises. Come prepared to work smart, not just hard, while learning about body alignment, efficiency of movement, and skill progressions. This is a long workshop with a lot of information – a notebook, video camera, and power snacks are encouraged.

Workshop Agenda:
- Full-body warm-up with heavy focus on shoulder pre-hab/stability/mobility
- Conditioning drills for two arms, one arm, and preparation for dynamic movement
- Breakdown of a variety of rollup skills and their progressions
- Comprehensive cool-down with emphasis on maintaining open shoulder mobility.

Pre-requisites: While previous straps work is not necessary, this is not a “beginners” workshop. The following skills will be used extensively so students must feel very comfortable with each: meathook, skin-the-cat, inverted pike, inverted pull-up, straddle ups with straight arms/legs

Limit: 5
Length: 3hrs
Cost: $60

Aerial Conditioning: Straps Edition

Aerial Conditioning: Straps Edition

This hour has been curated to provide a full body workout using a mix of floor exercises and conditioning exercises on straps. Formatted similarly to a Tabatta style circuit training, you will work through three rounds of 8 exercises all targeted at making movement in the air easier and more efficient. While the class uses straps as the primary apparatus for the workout, the exercises used here will translate to all other aerial work. Come prepared to sweat!

Pre-requisites: Previous straps work is not necessary and most of the exercises are scalable, but having a solid meathook and the ability to hold a hollow body position for at least 30 seconds will be very helpful. If you have not done straps before, please come a few minutes early so wrapping and body position on the straps can be explained.

Limit: 8
Length: 1.25hr
Cost: $20

Intermediate Rope Workshop with Rosie Eastman

This intermediate workshop will work on more advanced wraps and drops, with a focus on continuing motion and flow from one sequence to the next. We will be doing open drops that require more body control and awareness, but are simpler to remember and perform. This workshop will also focus on linking tricks and sequences to build endurance and encourange improvisation technique.

*12/06/2015 3:30 p.m. $35 per student. 90 minute class. *

With almost a decade of performance and instruction, Rosie Eastman has done everything from group acrobatics to flying trapeze to trick riding on horseback. There was even a summer as a goat wrangler. Her specialty, however, has always been aerial, with rope and hoop as her specialties. She has been worked with Cristiani Family, The Flying Pages, The Flying Farfans, Shrine Circuses, El Monstero, and Circus Flora.

This summer, Lucia Aerial is debuting Intro to Aerial/Tumbling for Kids - a great indoor activity to drop the kids off at this summer! This beginner level class for children ages 6-12 will teach trapeze and aerial silks as well as a wide range of tumbling skills. Class meets Wednesdays at noon beginning June 3rd and the enrollment cost is $120 for six weeks. Drop-ins are welcome at $20 a class (bring a friend!). Led by Brent Holzapfel, this class will build body awareness in the air and on the ground. No prior experience necessary, just a willingness to try!

Aerial and Gymnastics classes offer coordination, strength, flexibility, discipline, confidence, creativity, a healthy body and positive self-esteem. At Lucia, you have access to our safe, professional, and multi-disciplined instructors without the pressures of a competitive program.

Brent grew up doing unlimited gymnastics in the gym his mother ran. At 23, he began his journey into circus arts working with Mongolian contortion teacher Rosa Yagaantseteg. A year after beginning training, he began performing around St. Louis and helped start an aerial school. Brent originally taught Conditioning and Trapeze, and now regularly teaches Silks as well as Handstands and Flexibility.
